Myst and Riven: Space should skip cinematics, not pause

Reported by: mgiuca Owned by: bgK

Cc: Game: Riven

Description

Version: 2.1.0git
Games: Myst Masterpiece Edition (GOG version, June 2018), Riven (GOG version, June 2018)
OS: Windows 10
Type of bug: Departure from original game behaviour

ScummVM port of both Myst and Riven has "Esc" to skip cinematics and "Space" to pause. Instead, "Space" should skip cinematics.

  • There is no need to ever pause Myst or Riven, and there wasn't a pause button in either of the original games.
  • In Riven (and the next two games in the series), Space skips cinematics.
  • Myst never had any key to skip cinematics, but if you're going to add it, it may as well be Space like the other games.

Having to press Esc to cinematics is quite a departure from the control scheme we're all used to from Riven, Myst III and Myst IV.

(Maybe Space-to-pause is a standard key shortcut in ScummVM so this can't be applied on the main tree, but should be applied as a patch in the Myst 25th Anniversary release, since it's strange having this pause button in the official release.)

It is now possible to remap the actions for Riven to different keys in the "edit game dialog". ScummVM 2.2.0git-2260 or above is required.
