Description
ScummVM version: 0.5.3cvs (Aug 24 2003 10:12:10) Platform: Gentoo 1.4, gcc-2.3.2, athlon-tbird Game: Sam N Max, PC, English
Reproduction: Enter the first bigfoot room. Take the bottle of wine. Speak to any of the present bigfoots. After the conversation initiation, it will crash with:
ERROR: (53: 54: 0x3C): findObjectInRoom: Object 548 not found in room 53

Can't even load your savegame. Is it for the floppy or the CD/ talkie version?

I can't reproduce it on Windows 98SE with latest CVS (October 2, 2003) and Sam & Max PC-CD English, using my own savegame near that scene. I took the wine bottle and talked to every bigfoot without incident. I added trace output to the function that generates the error you reported, and I'm not even seeing an *attempt* to search for object 548 in room 53. So, I can't get a backtrace to determine what script/opcode might have generated such a call.
