SCI: KQ6CD - program crashes in dialogues ("portrait ALEX.bin not found")

The Internet Archive version of KQ6 crashes the first time you attempt to talk to anyone.

Steps to reproduce
1) Start the game (this version is dual Windows/DOS so choose either)
2) Go up
3) Go top left or top right
4) Talk to someone

Expected behavior
Start a dialogue

Actual result
Game crashes with:

ERROR: portrait ALEX.bin not found!

Additional notes

1. While this version of the game lacks it, other versions have a subfolder called ACTORS that indeed has a file called ALEX.bin (which is probably a node to the protagonist Alexander).
2. Some reviewers of The Internet Archive complained about crashes, but none of them mentioned ScummVM (it seems they played it right online there via DOSBox) and none of them referred to dialogue related crashes.

I'm aware of this quote, but I'm sorry, I was under the impression The Internet Archive is a respected establishment that only uploads legal materials.

The exemption was renewed in 2006, and in 2009 was indefinitely extended pending further rulemakings. The Library reiterated the exemption as a "Final Rule" with no expiration date in 2010.

Yes - that gives them permission to archive and stream these files, it does not extend to the end user for personal use.

Think about it as a library, you can go in and read the books and magazines (and in some cases check them out on a temporary basis), but you're not allowed to reproduce or resell them.
