Description
It's been so long since I played the original of this game so I don't remember if this was in the original or not, but it seems like there are short pauses when characters are talking to each other. I am not talking about when you are picking lines to say, but for example at the beginning when you bring the gas back to Maureen and automatically have a little chat she pauses in between lines. The game seems to run smoothly during this time.
Using 0.6.1b on WinXP, english CD (copied to HD).

I'm sorry, I thought I responded to this bug already. Anyways, that was the problem I was having. Part of the problem I was having was that I didn't have subtitles enabled so I was unable to draw the connection between talkspeed and the pausing. Perhaps enable talkspeed only when subtitles are enabled and also with some sort of visual meter showing the degree of talkspeed?

Good to hear that.
Hm yeah, we could indeed change it so that the talkdelay has no effect when subtitles are hidden. Shouldn't be hard to implement... but I wonder how the original engine handled this ?!? Anyway, feel free to file a feature request for it if you like to.
Regarding showing some kind of visual indication for the talkspeed (i.e. like in the original, where pressing +/- would briefly show a small popup) should also be possible; again, please file a FR :-)

When you say it "pauses", do you mean that the audible speech ends, but the subtitles are still visible for some time?
if so, you just encountered the "talkspeed" :-). using the + and - keys you can adjust how long the subtitles stay. Pressing + a couple times should "fix" your problem.
