FM-TOWNS MI1: Kanji version not recognized

Description

Game: Monkey Island 1, FM-Towns, Kanji Kanji version of MI not recognized (different filename) Tested with: ScummVM 0.6.1b + CVS Sep 20 Platform: AMD 2000+ running Windows XP

Hi! On my FM-Towns version of Monkey Island 1, there are two MI versions, one is the English version, this directory contains the 3 main files needed to play: monkey.000, monkey.001, monkey.exp.

The other directory contains the Japanese version, but this is not yet recognized by ScummVM since the files are named: monkeyk.000, monkeyk.001 and monkeyk.exp.

Simple renaming monkeyk.* to monkey.* solved the problem, but maybe this can be fixed in the next release since some people might want to play directly from CD.

By the way, does Kanji support work on non-Asian Windows systems? Or does it work at all yet? Just asking as I am getting just garbled (arabic) text in the Japanese version.

Kanji support is independant from your Windows version; the font rendering is done by ScummVM. However, i have no idea whether it is "supposed" to work in the kanji version of MI. But what I know is that for it to work, you need a FM-TOWNS font rom file ("fmt_fnt.rom"). I am not sure how to get that file, though. Probably have to extract it from a real FM-TOWNS. I do actually have a "real" FM-Towns system, but unfortunately it is broken :-(

I read out and transfered the FM-Towns BIOS files some time ago (they are named fmt_fnt.rom, fmt_dic.rom, fmt_f20.rom, fmt_sys.rom), but if I put them in the same folder as the game, it still won't display Kanji.

Well, it is not so important, as the English version works fine for me, just wanted to let you know...

UPDATE: I just checked with latest CVS as well as 0.6.1.b, as soon as I put fmt_fnt.rom in the directory, the game exists with a segmentation fault (SDL parachute) after the title screen. If it is not present, the game runs fine, but without Kanjis (unreadable text).

Maybe there are multiple versions of the font file around, or ScummVM needs a ROM font dump from a specific FM-Towns system. It could also be that my dump file is broken but it works fine in other emulators (UNZ).
