DOTT: SFX not properly played

Description
Sometimes, in day of the tentacle, the sound effects should not be completely played. In scummvm, they are always fully played. We can hear it in the introduction, just before the arms of tentacle come out (a stretching sound is fully played whereas only the beginning of that sound should be played) and many times in the game.

I actually noticed this in the DOS version of DOTT while using an SBLive card under Windows 98's DOS mode with the SBLive SB16 emulation.
Could this instead be a problem with sound cards that can play multiple sounds at once?

I also noticed this behavior. The canonical DOTT relied on SCUMM terminating one sound effect when starting another; in the days of earlier sound cards, this was the only alternative to doing software sound mixing. Is it possible to get MMSYSTEM to terminate sound effects in progress? If so, SCUMMVM could be configurable to allow only one sound effect at a time, with new sound effects cutting off earlier ones.
This isn't really a bug, probably more of a feature request.
