LOOM: Crash

Reported by: SF/doomstalk Owned by:
Priority: normal Component: Engine: SCUMM
Version: Keywords:
Cc: Game: Loom

Description

ScummVM crashes in the introduction sequence of Loom CD-ROM. It successfully loads the skill select screen, and it plays the majority of the "Welcome to the age of the great guilds" sound clip, but it sounds slightly cut off at the very end and then it drops out.

Here's the report from the command line: Looking for loomcd Detected game 'Loom (256 color CD version)', version 5.1.42 Loading room 69 WARNING: Unknown screen effect, 0! Error(69:1:0x3D2): Out of memory while allocating 1768515945!

I've tried it with both the February 15th 2003 CVS snapshot, and the current release build (3.00) running under Windows XP Professional SP1.

In case its of any help, here's my hardware configuration: Motherboard - Gigabyte GA-7DX+ Processor - AMD Athlon XP 1900+ RAM - 512mb DDR Video - VisionTek Xtasy GeForce 3 Ti 500 64mb Sound - Creative Labs Sound Blaster Live!

Oh, a few things I forgot: The crash only happens when I use my DVD drive (NEC DV5700a). It runs if I use my CD-RW (Sony CRX140E), but I don't get any CD-ROM audio.

Sounds like the problem mentioned in the README about running games with CD audio from the CD under Windows.

As the README clearly states, this is apparently a known bug in Windows...
