Do we have any plans to implement this? Does it worth efforts? I.e. how big ig theoretical space gain?

I just checked, SFXXXX* files in simon1win take 6.6Megs. Even if there will be 70% compression, that will give just 4M gain. Taking in account the size of compressed game which is around 90M shows that it will not be an improvement worthwhile the efforts.
Since we recently reviewed exactly same situation with SCUMM engine (FT.LA1 compression) and rejected it, I'm closing this request.

You can use the compressed effects file (From the DOS version) with the Windows version now, when using current ScummVM CVS.
Still no compression support for the SFX* files though.
