Description
Hi! I realise this might be a techinical impossibilty but it'd be REALLY cool if it was possible to get hold of higher quality versions of the video sequences in Broken Sword.
The ones that are available for download from ScummVM are MUCH lower quality than the ones originally included on my game discs. Since I thought the videos had come from Revolution directly, I naively hoped they would be HIGHER quality (given the technology of compression these days).
Is there any way to allow ScummVM to use the videos from the game discs, or to recode them without losing so much quality? Like I said, it's such a shame that Revolution cannot supply you with higher quality versions rendered with DivX or somesuch high quality/high compression codec.
Sorry if I'm being very ignorant about this!
Thanks a lot! - Johnny

Thanks a lot for the info, ender! I didn't realise there was a forum! I guess I should look more carefully!
Thanks again! - Johnny

You can re-encode the smacker files included on the CDs yourself. Search the forum for this, there are PLENTY of threads with the details :)
As far as the quality of the downloadable scenes go, Revolution had no access to the source material. The downloadable cutscene packs are simply re-encodes I made of the Smacker format cutscenes on the original game discs.
They are such low quality because they are mpeg2, and what you see is pretty much the best compromise I could find between quality and downloadable size. Using a different codec is not really an option, because nothing better is portable enough to run on all the platforms ScummVM supports.
RAD Game Tools (the maker of Smacker) has told us they do NOT want us implementing native support for playing their format, and we will respect that.
Closing.
