Description

while playing with some linux svg editors, i've created an svg-icon for scummvm and wonder if there would be some interest to include it in CVS/distros for gnu/linux, OSX or similar.

Ticket imported from: #1017293. Ticket imported from: patches/459.

This is not a bug.

Nice work, but could you convert whole logo, so any part of it could be rendered for icon?

comment:4 by SF/amorphousshape, 20 years ago

@sev: you mean the whole of http://scummvm.sourceforge.net/images/scummvm_logo.png ? well, i'll have a look, if the interest is there. i just wouldn't waste time on it, if noone cared, that's why i wanted to ask first.

@max: sorry, i've only worked with bugzilla before and the default policy there usually is to file a bug with an attached patch. i wasn't even aware of the sourceforge patch tracker before... well, you always keep learning.

Yes, I mean that logo. There is an interest at least from me, and I'll put it to the distribution. If there will be further site redesigns, or something else, it is always good to have logo in vector format.

You did a decent work with processing letter 'S', it scales well, and is detailed enough, so I hope that when you'll do the whole logo, it will be in same high quality. Then I'll commit it.

i forgot to mention that we're doing some work on imptoving in-game GUI, which will have highter resolution and probably will include logo as well. logo in vector format will let us to render it pixel-wise without any sclaing artefacts. (note to fingolfin: i don't mean incorporating svg renderer here but freedom of choice in logo size)

Sev, if you don't plan to include a SVG renderer, your point is moot. Except you plan to conver the SVG file to some other custom vector format and include a renderer for it. It seems pretty much overkill to me to do that, when all we need is the logo at two sizes: for the 320x200 and for the 640x400 version of the GUI.

BTW, the ScummVM logo source file (GIMP format) can be found here: <http://www.scummvm.org/images/save/>

Sure libsvg would be an overkill. No reason to depend on it and sure no point to add other 15k+ lines of code.

My point was that wih vector logo you could: o produce logo in any size you need for web o when GUI is being built, you will have freedom of choice at which size logo will be and still have a pretty picture o print logo with 600dpi on CD insert with no quality degradation

and last point, there is a person who could do it. If Daniel will not do this, the topic is over.

Daniel, if you don't want to do whole logo, it would be good if you modify your SVG icon so whole letter S is in there, and not a cropped version.

I'll just finish this in a while. Might take some days, because I'm having exams at the moment.

Where is the "S" cropped once you render it out? For me it is complete and I'm already using it as a GNOME icon which displays okay.

Okay, I've taken my exam by now and there are still 2 weeks till the next one. So I've had some time to shape the complete logo. I've reduced the details on this one at the moment, because I'm not sure how detailed it should become. The "noise" inside the letters should certainly be raised a little, if it's to be used in high resolution renderings.

But sev, what do you think so far?

Well, "SCUMM" looks too smooth for me. The overlall impression should be like it is drawn with a bruch. But now they look too artificial. Also it lacks glow behind SCUMM part. VM is ok.

After quite lengthy development on IRC, final version (not that is attached here) was accepted. Looks very close to our .xcf logo and actually rasterized version could be generated from it. Though some versions of GIMP render it incorrectly (at least that one on my box). So use sodipodi or inkscape (to name free tools) to see/modify/render it.
