Although I did not reproduce this exact bug, I think I have something related.
Enter set "ha", you should appear just next to the elevator. Walk away (ex: until you are near the other elevator's door), and press home to be back near the elevator.
The elevator doors open in original, and after a few seconds play a "door cannot close" animation (doors start closing, make a special noise, and reopen).

The doors were always somewhat buggy in the original too. Could still be a bug there anyway though.

Actually, playing a bit more with elevators I saw the door opens when walking slightly to the right - so manny may just be standing on the line.
Very true that elevator doors were weird in original.
