midi crash

Reported by: SF/logicdeluxe Owned by: SF/ender
Priority: normal Component: Audio: MT32

Description

Built on Apr 18 2002 00:53:47 win32 When I use Midi the engine crashes randomly every few minutes with an error like this:

Error(68:105:0x6A): MM System Error 'MMSYSTEM067 _ber den Anschluss werden Daten zum Gerőt łbertragen. Wiederholen Sie den Vorgang, sobald die Datenłbertragung beendet ist.'! Fatal signal: Segmentation Fault (SDL Parachute Deployed)

This never happens with adlib. Of course Scummvm was the only software playing midi at the time.

The same error also appeared on a different windows installation with completely different sound drivers.

Well, that error message is from Windows... What does it translate to? I can't read German, sorry :P

The German part means: 'MMSYSTEM067 through this port, data are transmitting to the device. Try again as soon as the transmission is completed!'

btw. I never saw this error in other software.

I cannot replicate this. Is there a specific game that causes this problem for you?

comment:5 by SF/logicdeluxe, 23 years ago

It appears in all games supporting midi. And it happens in no particular situation. However not in quite scenes like between the chapter screen and Largo's appearance in Monkey 2.

I also tried it with the Voyetra OPL-driver in Windows. The same error appeard. So it is certainly not my MPU401 which cause the problem.

Well, I just cannot make it happen with the latest CVS..

Obviously this works now, otherwise you wouldn't have been able to file the bug against Bumpus in sam and max. :P

Please update your bugs if they are suddenly fixed.

Sorry I didn't mention it, this only happens when I use -ewindows. It never happens with -adlib. And the bug in Sam&Max I noticed as I tried it in order to check if this also happens to general midi, rather than mt32. If fact it does. I just took a savegame in bumpus house and noticed the other bug. This crash with -ewindows still happens. Regardles if the game is mt32 or general midi.

Try this. Before you start the game, set the environment variable 'SDL_AUDIODRIVER' to be 'waveout'.

comment:12 by SF/logicdeluxe, 23 years ago

SDL_AUDIODRIVER did not solve the problem. What has this to do with 'waveout' anyway? This is a midi problem only, I think.

But I got a window popped up with debug info (which did not appear the first time): SCUMMVM verursachte einen Fehler durch eine ungltige Seite in Modul SDL.DLL bei 017f:10014532.
