#3757 new defect

AGOS: StS1 - Bad sync in Italian CD version

Reported by: SF/zoppologo Owned by:
Priority: low Component: Engine: AGOS
Version: Keywords: script
Cc: Game: Simon the Sorcerer 1

Description

I'm using the following ScummVM win32 versions: 0.11.1 and last svn (30-5-2008). I'm playing the Italian talkie version of Simon the Sorcerer 1.

At the very end of the game, when a big hand takes simon from his bed, the lines Simon should say don't come up. When the scene is over, it stops with the view on Simon's bedroom for a few minutes, probably waiting for those lines to show up. and they eventually do, leaving the following error in the command windows for four times: WARNING: waitForSync: wait timed out!

If you play through the end sequence again, can you still reproduce the problem?

Timer issues of this type are usually difficult to reproduce, if triggered by specific event(s).

Or easy reproduced, if caused by a bug in the script or the video script of the game.

well, it happens every time i play through the end sequence. you mean that everyone should be able to reproduce it? or it could be a problem in the script of my version of the game?

Could try copying the data files from the original CD again, in case of minor corruption in the data files.

Since you can easily reproduce the issue, it sounds like a bug in script or video script of the original game though.

Unfortunately I don't own the Italian version of Simon the Sorcerer 1, and the problem doesn't occur in the English versions of Simon the Sorcerer 1 (AmigaCD32, DOS CD and Windows CD).

copying the data files again doesn't work. I guess I have to wait for someone who can find this bug (if any) in the italian version. thank you for your help

I've got the italian version of Simon 1 talkie too, and the same bug happens here

Glorfindel, is it still reproducable?

comment:8 by SF/glorifindel, 16 years ago

Yes, I've just try with latest 0.12pre build

Same problem: We might be able to fix the issue, if we had access to the italian version; but I guess most of us only have the english and maybe german version of Simon, so... :-/

I'm unable to reproduce the problem with the Italian version provided by GOG.com.

Which Italian version are you using? the one with .VOC sound files, or .WAV sound files?

@Kirben

Since you have at least one available italian version which doesn't display this bug and OP hasn't answered for some years, would it be save to close this item?

I finally managed to get to the end of the italian Windows talkie version and I can confirm that this old bug still occurs. I attached a savefile. Steps to reproduce

  1. Enter the doorway to the right
  2. Use wax ("cera per pavimenti") on Sordid
  3. Let the final cutscene play

this version uses a single .WAV file.
The bug does NOT occur on the GOG edition, which uses a .VOC file. The savegame is usable on both.

Priority: normallow

Since this particular bug occurs only on a specific hard to find version, and only at the end of the game, I'm dropping priority.
