Whenever MT-32 is translated to GM the "Percussive
Organ" (GM instrument 17 of 0-127) plays one octave too
low.
The MT-32 version actually is pitched one octave higher
than the GM version. So this has to be translated as
well whenever an MT-32 track is played on GM hardware.
It seems to be the only instrument where this has to be
done, as far as I can tell.
I can transpose this manually on my MU5, and it sounds
much more similar to the original MT-32 output. It is
very audible with the Monkey Island games since they
make much use of that instrument. You also can find the
Adlib track's organ higher pitched than the GM output
without transposing.
I also tested this on some tracks with my other
wavetables and they all sound correct with the
Percussive Organ transposed one octave higher.
