SCUMM: Keymapper support for Sam and Max

Description

Instead of using the D-pad to step through the actions (like in Sam and Max) could a GUI of icons not be implemented that pops up on a D-pad press.

I never used a Nintendo DS, so I only am basing this on reading the NDS port homepage, but wouldn't that (at least for Sam&Max) just simply amount to displaying the inventory ("i" key) ?
